After a busy week of hosting my sister Erin I enjoyed a bit of a low-key week, trying to make the most of London summer while also training for the Dingle marathon on September 6. And can you believe it’s already July! Summer goes too fast..
Here’s how training went this past week!
Monday: Rest from running, pilates reformer at Heartcore after work.
Tuesday: Run commute + office run, 7.5 miles. HOT.
90F/30C this day in London. Personal training at Nordic Balance over lunch.
Wednesday: I ran after work, which I really struggle to do. I had a longer workout and just couldn’t muster up the energy in the morning, but I regretted my choice. It is so much harder after work and in the heat!
My session was warm-up, 18 minutes at marathon pace, 4 min jog, 12 minutes at marathon pace, 4 min jog, 12 minutes at marathon pace, cool-down for 9 miles total. I was kind to myself and went more on effort than pace, especially because I was running with my backpack, which made things even hotter and harder.

Thursday: Easy 4.5 mile jog to work for an early work breakfast at Fallow. Really rich breakfast- way more than I normally would eat, but it was a nice “women in finance” event.

Reformer pilates at Heartcore after work.
Friday: I decided to book a 2nd personal training session (I’ve only been doing one a week so far) at 7:30 am. To make things even more fun, I ran to the gym (4.5 miles), did the 45 minute strength session, and then ran/walked home. Running after lifting is tough, so it was a lot more walking than running, but it was a gorgeous morning, so I really enjoyed the chill walk home. Then I worked from home for the rest of the day (was logged on and working by just after 9 am which is the normal starting time here!)
That evening, Dustin and I went to see Evita; it’s been getting a lot of positive press, as its an updated version created by Jamie Lloyd (who recently did Sunset Blvd with Nicole Scherzinger, which was also incredible) starring Rachel Zegler, who was so good! Londoners, check it out!

Saturday: It was tough to get up early after the theatre the night before, but I met my friend Tina at 8:30 for a 16 mile long run along the canal to Victoria park and back. Less hot/humid than last week.
(Our friend Kelly joined for a bit as well!)

I popped over to the Hampstead Heath mixed ponds post run for a refreshing dip!

That evening, Dustin and I went out for his birthday dinner to Humo, which is a Michelin-starred restaurant in Mayfair that only cooks over fire; “cooking over fire often implies a free-styling ruggedness, but the clever techniques here demonstrate its limitless possibilities. No gas or electricity is used in the process; instead, every element of ‘fire’ is considered, from the selection of different woods for different ingredients, to the choice of flame, smoke or embers as the primary source of heat.”

Sunday: Up early for a 6.5 mile run with Ruth and Dustin. I’ve mentioned the Hampstead Heath ponds here before, for which we have an annual membership, but this year we added on the Parliament Lido (in the Heath) to our pass (Lido is a term for outdoor pool.) We walked over to the Lido at 10:30 for a swim there. Very refreshing to swim a bit.
I feel lucky that we have the ponds and the Parliament Lido so close!

Now, we are off to Hyde Park for the Sabrina Carpenter “gig”! She is performing there as part of BST Hyde Park festival. Making the most of London summer!
Summary: 2 pilates, 2 personal training sessions, 51 miles of running.
I’ll leave you with a picture of Ruth at daycare, sleeping with one eye open!
